Rayhaan Quraishi transcends the stereotype of the rapper you see on TV or hear on the radio. His music marks the true expression of a young man growing into today’s day and age. He began rapping at the age of 13 after seeing his mother pass away from cancer. His world shook up, he got through those trials by ventilating through music. Now deriving his inspiration from his triumphs as well as his tribulations, he is a young man growing exponentially, both, musically and personally. He began his career developing his skills as one of the youngest in Toronto’s rap battle circuit, which has garnered him a reputation for his uncanny freestyle ability. Performing in shows and throwing fundraisers across the GTA, he is commended and recognized for his energy on stage as well as the love for music he truly expresses in every one of his performances. Crafting hundreds of songs and being known for his unprecedented flow, introspective honest lyrics and unique voice, makes Rayhaan one of the most promising up and coming artists in music today. The future is bright for the MC/Singer/Songwriter, who looks to extend genres and touch listener’s in their hearts and minds by showing he is different in his. Spending years honing his passion for music, it is only a matter of opportunity before accomplishment and success matches his talent. Whether in studio, on stage, or in the street, one thing is for sure, there is NOBODY like Rayhaan.
The hip hop juggernaut NOTES TO SELF features rappers Swamp Donkey and Roshin, producer/rapper Bronze One, world renowned DJ/turntablist DJ Dopey and writer/illustrator Elicser. For nine years NOTES TO SELF has successfully created a group dynamic reminiscent of early De La Soul and Dilated Peoples. NOTES TO SELF hails from Toronto, the capital of Canadian hip hop. A collective as mature and talented as NOTES is rare, especially in a genre often limited by trends lacking in originality. NOTES TO SELF has recently completed the final touches on their debut full-length work ‘A Shot in the Dark’ scheduled for worldwide _release May 2009 with bbe Records – only to be preceeded by their highly anticipated EP ‘Warning Shots’ due out February 2009. While eagerly awaiting their debut efforts which now feature collaborations with US artists Dilated Peoples and Def Jux affiliate Vast Aire of Cannibal Ox, NOTES’ 2006 tribute release commemorating the late great J Dilla, continues to realize over 8000 downloads online. As NOTES steadily adds to their list of accomplishments, the group most certainly stepped up their game by opening up for various heavy hitters such as Talib Kweli, Dilated Peoples and People Under the Stairs, which has since guaranteed them as headliners for both CMW & NXNE music festivals. NOTES TO SELF is poised to break; with each ‘cutting-edge’ step, they ready themselves for world distribution. Hip Hop has come full circle with NOTES TO SELF.
