Had the opportunity a few weeks ago to visit NYC for the first time with some buddies for a little skate mission. For years people have been telling me how much I would love it, and man were they ever right. That city is incredible – I mean I love Toronto and everything it has to offer, but I have never felt an energy like the one in New York. Having only 4 short days to skate around and check things out, I instantly realized that you need at least a few weeks in this city to get a real vibe for it. Here is some footage I shoot, with skating by Nathan Dell-Vandenberg, Nick Pierre, Yash Presswalla, Everett Maclean, and myself. Didn’t get tons of good shots, but I was honestly just too overwhelmed by everything the place had to offer to have my camera out the whole time. Like most of the best things in life, this place just left me wanting more. Big ups to all the EY guys for setting everything up and inviting me along! Again soon!
Serious cross training. One of my buddies bought a freebord a few months ago, and this was the first time I had gotten a chance to try it out. This thing is amazing! The pivot wheel makes you feel like your constantly sliding sideways at first, but once you get the hang of it, it feels like riding a snowboard on really icy conditions, which may not sound fun, but for us Ontario snowboarders its all we know. Its a little expensive for what it is (300$), but after riding it once I’m pretty sure I want one. Or maybe I’ll just ride my buddies as much as he’ll let me and save my shrapnel for the snowboard season. Who knows. Good times, get hyped! Check out the official website at http://www.freebord.com.
Here’s some clips from the RDS “most dangerous skateboard tour” stop at Ashbridges bay. None of the pros who were supposed to be skating were anywhere to be found, so some Toronto heads held it down instead. Featuring Zack Ferguson, Colin Findlater, Jon Cos, and friends.
Been skating the new Eighth street skatepark quite a bit recently, and got a chance to shoot some footage with Nolan Waller one of the last times I was there. This kid has gotten so good over the last few years, and its been amazing watching him develop into the rider he has become.Keep an eye out. Big tings come.
Visited the new Eighth street skatepark on Sunday. I could tell you about it but I think I’ll just let the folks at New Line Skateparks do it for me – ” The Eighth Street Skatepark concept is based around an organic form that weaves naturally through the existing site and covers approximately 930 square metres (10,000 sqft.).
The park includes a variety of bowl, transition, and street elements that are complimented by skateable art, ensuring skaters of all styles are satisfied.
These features curve through and around the site creating lines that flow– minimal pushing is needed.
Designated seating areas keep specatators safe but close to the action while the west side of the site has been heavily planted to act as a buffer for the surrounding community.
Eighth Street Skatepark is located at the corner of Eighth Street and Birmingham Street in Etobicoke, ON.”
In the second installment of the double vision project, we offer you a days worth of footage from Ashbridges Bay skate plaza, featuring Pat Dysart, Joel Scullard, Nathan Dell-Vandenberg, Nicky Young, and myself., as well as some street footage I had lying around, featuring Will Bartlett, Jing Lee, Nolan Waller, Andrew Davidson and Nick Pierre. “Don’t be fooled by the calendar. There are only as many days in the year as you make use of. One man gets only a week’s value out of a year while another man gets a full year’s value out of a week. “ – Charles Richards
