This just makes me mad. While us Toronto folk are sweating are sacks off in 30+ degree weather under this shroud of pollution that surrounds the city, Our west coast companions in Nelson BC are getting to hike and ride Powder in the middle of June! In all seriousness I was amazed when my friend Adam Batthany sent me these clips on June 8th, of him hiking and riding a very late season snowfall at Whitewater Winter Resort just outside of Nelson. The camera got a little fogged up half way down from the extreme temp. differences, but overall this footage is pretty damn amazing. Sit back and watch this video all while keeping in mind it was filmed on June 7th. June Powder!
I rarely ever get the chance to be in front of the camera, so when me and Nathan went by 8th street last week I took full advantage of his willingness and got him to film a couple clips of me. This park is super fun for just cruising around, and even better in the middle of a weekday when you can charge with no one in your way. We both ended up getting a few clips here and there, and this is the result of that work. Enjoy!
Was skating down at the Cherry Beach athletic field the other morning, and my buddy Nathan started messing around with his Trombone while Nicky was trying to cop a trick. Ended up making him keep playing for about 50 tries or so, and even though we didn’t get a live soundtrack to the stomped one, I was still really hyped on how this footage ended up looking (even despite my crappy on camera mic!) Anyway enjoy some sweet tunes while you watch Nicky work through the process.
Another winter has come and gone and the skate season is back in full effect. Been spending quite a bit of time down at the Ashbridges Bay plaze, and these 2 videos are the result of a few hours of skating – featuring Andre Besner, Nicky Young, Aiden Bryant, Shawn Whitten, Sean St. Jaques, Joel Scullard and Justin David. Grapes, Crackers, Gorgeous cheese.
The weather sure is heating up quickly, so getting outside is the only option. Been skating park alot recently as I have become slightly disillusioned with hunting and being chased out of spots in the streets. Plus transition is so much easier on your body and these old joints appreciate that consideration. Here are a few edits from some of the cities skatepark as of late, hope you enjoy – now get outside.
Working on making a full length video for Hammer skateshop, looing to be released in the late fall/winter. Expect big things. Check them out at http://www.hammertoronto.com/ .
3 small edits from 3 different skateparks around the city. Really hyped for the River st. skatepark to actually open to the public, seems like the ultimate rainy day spot. Featuring skating from Nicky Young, Alex Barron, Tanner Grisbrook, Max Bell, Derrick Stryder, Zack Ferguson, Nolan Waller, and a few other homies. Now go outside.
A couple edits I submitted for the Hammer/ Tangent/ Skateloft contest. Its cool watching the more recent stuff again, but looking back on some of the old clips of Max and Blake killing it hypes me up more than anything else to skate, because it reminds me of those old days when we spent every single day in the streets. Classic. Enjoy.
From the Grid – “Following his declaration of war on graffiti last spring, Rob Ford quickly became a favourite subject of the local aerosol-artist community, including SPUD, the masked, anonymous crusader whose depictions of the mayoral mug have made him something of a spray-paint rock star. This month, his work (which he also does on traditional canvases) is on display at two different art shows.
Can you give me an update on the current state of the mayor’s war on graffiti? It’s been almost a year since he picked up his power hose.
Oh, they’re keeping up with it. Still buffing and getting rid of stuff. As a story it gets boring after a while and the media move on. Especially with a mayor like we have, who is always pulling something or getting involved in some blunder.
Is it fair to say that the mayor’s anti-graffiti crusade has been a rallying cry for the city’s street artists?
It certainly sparked a pushback and it’s produced a lot of great artwork, just based on Rob Ford as a subject and a muse. A lot of people want to make a statement about our current leader, but they don’t have the outlet or they don’t have the balls. I figured, I’m doing my art on the street all the time anyway, so why not focus it on something to make a statement?
Some random destruction by the homies on a couple of Toronto spots, as well as some b-shots and lost clips from a loft edit I made recently. Enjoy, then go outside.
