Here are a couple little edits from the loft over the last few weeks, the first being a little session with Derrick Stryder Flocka, Nicky Young and Zack Ferguson on some ledges and a launch. The second edit is from last nights Third Quarter profits premier, with skating by Nicky Young, Blake Saye, Josh Forgues, Nolan Waller, Erick Valentic, and Mitch Donovan. Slow Motion.

Its January 8th and I’m still filming skateboarding. Crazy. Almost everything else around the neighbourhood was wet, so Nicky and I had a little session on the Canadian Tire ledge, which ended up producing these clips. Decided to make this edit a little slower, so you could really get a sense of how good that front crook is. Straight goods. Slow motion for me.

Nicky Young – Water Hazard / Snow Going.

Shot this first video a little while ago for a Bitter Bushings / Skate Loft competition, and being the only people who submitted anything, we won. The snow is a little over exposed in a few shots, but you gotta give Nicky mass credit for doing as much as he did in these conditions. Kids hungry. The second video is a short ashbridges session were Nicky gets served up for diving in the shallow end. Making waves on concrete is pretty impressive if you ask me. Loft Mini Edit.

The winter is slowly creeping up, meaning that anyone hoping to get a skate session in is going to have to head towards the skate loft. I had been off my board for a few months due to a busy work schedule, so when the chance to get a couple sessions in with some friends at the loft arose I was there in a heartbeat. I had forgotten how much fun skating there was, from the perfect mini to the hype of just getting to session with friends again. New Camera Testing.

Picked up a Canon T2i the other week, and have been trying to get comfortable with the whole “shooting video on a dslr” concept and feel. I really like the quality of the images and video, but am still getting used to how hyper realistic everything looks. Anyway here are a couple of edits that I shot over the last couple of weeks. New York City Skate Trip.

Had the opportunity a few weeks ago to visit NYC for the first time with some buddies for a little skate mission. For years people have been telling me how much I would love it, and man were they ever right. That city is incredible – I mean I love Toronto and everything it has to offer, but I have never felt an energy like the one in New York. Having only 4 short days to skate around and check things out, I instantly realized that you need at least a few weeks in this city to get a real vibe for it. Here is some footage I shoot, with skating by Nathan Dell-Vandenberg, Nick Pierre, Yash Presswalla, Everett Maclean, and myself. Didn’t get tons of good shots, but I was honestly just too overwhelmed by everything the place had to offer to have my camera out the whole time. Like most of the best things in life, this place just left me wanting more. Big ups to all the EY guys for setting everything up and inviting me along! Again soon!

OATS – FlowRider

The never ending wave. The CNE had a FlowRider set up this year, so a few of the homies went down to check it out. I never got a chance to ride it, but this thing looks fun as hell. Here is an edit of of some the clips they shot, to get you hyped for board riding of any sport. This has been the summer of new board sports, and we here at FRG are looking forward to a winter of one of our favourites – snowboarding. Enjoy the sun while you can!

Element Demo @ Ashbridges Bay

“Get off the course”. Went down to check out the element team skate the Ashbridges plaza a few days ago, and this footage was the result. Got a few clips of the element guys, but wasn’t feeling competing with 1000 other kids with cameras to film them skate the 8 set, which is were they spent most of their time. Instead I lurked around the 11 set and watched the locals carcass toss, which was way more fun. Got some good shots, but also got trucked in the head as a result of filming too close to the rail and drinking a few too many beers. Next time I shoot long lens.

Freebording.

Serious cross training. One of my buddies bought a freebord a few months ago, and this was the first time I had gotten a chance to try it out. This thing is amazing! The pivot wheel makes you feel like your constantly sliding sideways at first, but once you get the hang of it, it feels like riding a snowboard on really icy conditions, which may not sound fun, but for us Ontario snowboarders its all we know. Its a little expensive for what it is (300$), but after riding it once I’m pretty sure I want one. Or maybe I’ll just ride my buddies as much as he’ll let me and save my shrapnel for the snowboard season. Who knows. Good times, get hyped! Check out the official website at http://www.freebord.com.
